Honors 9 English vs English 9
Our Honors 9 Course is a learning experience distinguished from traditional coursework by higher academic expectations impacting both the teacher and the students. The Honors 9 course differs from the English 9 course in structure, content, and process/assessment. These three elements combine with inspired instruction and a collection of superior students to create a dynamic, interactive environment that fosters deep intellectual development.
In addition, Honors 9 provides students with a robust, engaging, and enriching experience. While students in English 9 and Honors 9 may read the same texts, Honors 9 students will constantly be asked to confront these sources in deep and meaningful ways, with an emphasis on important implications, as well as on relevant applications of the text to the world. While students in English 9 will focus on content and literary terms, Honors 9 students will be expected to move to critical analysis and synthesis skills.
Additionally, the Honors 9 curriculum expands beyond the English 9 curriculum: for example, students will read more independent texts, participate in a debate unit and employ academic writing journals.
