Modern American Literature
MODERN AMERICAN LITERATURE IS NO LONGER BE OFFERED AT EHS. INSTEAD, CURRICULUM OF THIS COURSE HAS BEEN INTEGRATED INTO TWO REQUIRED COURSES:
English 11: Journeys and English 11: Voices.
Students in this course read a chronology of late 19th and early 20th century American literature. They will study writers including Steinbeck, Faulkner, Fitzgerald, Hughes and Miller as well as the culture surrounding each piece of literature, the author's ideas contained within it, as well as the text itself as a work of literature. Writing and speaking in response to the readings will be stressed in this course which will include a literary analysis paper. Successful completion of this course fulfills the literature requirement for graduation.
Prerequisite: You may not take this course if you have taken or are taking Advanced Placement Language.
